Grading all six well, 0:21 with real feedback, takes an evening. 0:25 Now open LawGrader, and choose Sign in with your institution. 0:30 Enter your school email, and continue. 0:35 Canvas asks once for permission. Authorize, 0:38 and you are in. 0:42 Add your name, your school, 0:44 and a phone number, choose Professor, and continue. 0:49 Two questions and your class is ready. First, 0:52 connect your Canvas course. 0:54 Pick the course you teach, and its name becomes the class name. 0:59 Second, where your assignments come from. 1:02 A colleague shared the Strategy Memo in the library, 1:05 with its rubric, and it is already matched to the Canvas assignment by name. 1:10 Create the class. 1:16 Your class is ready and linked to Canvas. 1:18 All six students came with it, 1:20 and the assignment is already loaded. 1:23 On the left, every assignment follows the same five steps: Assignment, Rubric, 1:29 Validate, Grade, and Report. 1:32 Open the assignment. 1:38 Open the Assignment step to see exactly what came in. 1:44 This is the prompt that came in from the shared library. 1:47 However you bring it in, it's your own copy now. 1:50 Edit it directly, like any document. 1:54 Header adds the course and due date. 1:56 AI policy tells students how much AI help is allowed. 2:00 Or ask the Assistant to make the edits for you, 2:03 in plain words. 2:04 Scroll through it. This is exactly what your students will read. 2:13 Download PDF gives you the handout, 2:16 ready to post or print. 2:21 Now open the Rubric step. 2:27 Ten criteria and a hundred points. 2:30 Each criterion is scored in ranges, 2:32 so you can give a score anywhere inside a level, 2:35 down to the half point. 2:37 Export PDF gives you a copy to read on paper or hand to students. 2:43 Open a criterion to see how it scores. 2:47 Rule Application is scored in Ranges, 2:49 from Exemplary through Beginning, 2:52 each level with its own band, 2:54 and Rounding set to point five. 2:57 Add scoring notes to tell the grader exactly what to look for. 3:00 Students never see them. 3:03 Describe it in plain words, 3:04 and let the assistant draft the note. 3:07 The assistant writes it out in full. Use this, 3:11 or ask for another turn. 3:16 Grader settings set the grader's Persona: 3:18 how strict it is, how much it writes, 3:21 and how direct it sounds. Your References live here too. 3:28 Validate is where you teach the grader your standards. 3:31 Add a few papers you have already graded, 3:33 compare its scores with yours, 3:35 and it learns where you are stricter or more generous. 3:38 You can do it any time. Today, 3:40 let us go straight to grading. 3:42 In the Grade step, bring the papers in From Canvas. 3:47 Import all six. Each paper starts grading the moment it arrives. 3:51 There is no button to press. 3:54 While you watch, each paper is read against your rubric, 3:57 scored criterion by criterion, 3:59 and annotated. A paper takes about a minute. 4:03 All six are ready to review, 4:05 each with an AI score and its rank in the class. 4:08 Nothing has gone to students yet. 4:10 Open Priya Raman's memo. 4:16 This is the grading surface. 4:18 The memo opens as the Word file Priya handed in, 4:21 your comments beside it, and the grade on the right. 4:25 Prefer to grade on the page? 4:27 In your grading settings, turn off Grade Word papers in Word, 4:30 and Word papers open as pages with every tool, 4:33 including Pin and Draw. 4:35 These three show or hide your Comments, 4:38 the Assistant, and the Grade, 4:40 so you can make room for what you are doing. 4:43 Prefer to grade it yourself? 4:45 Choose Manual before you start marking. 4:48 The AI's scores and comments step aside. 4:51 Turn Score and Feedback back on, 4:53 and everything returns exactly as it was. 4:57 Use the arrow keys to step through the comments. 5:00 The page follows along, and each passage lights up. 5:05 Open Score explanation on Rule Application to see exactly why each point moved. 5:11 Every line points to the paper. Click one, 5:14 and you jump straight to the passage behind it. 5:17 Now add your own. Pick Praise, 5:19 highlight the strong opening, 5:21 write a line, and file it under a criterion. 5:26 Strike out wordy phrasing in Deduction red, say why, 5:30 and put it under Writing. 5:34 Then set what it costs. Half a point, 5:37 since this criterion rounds to the half. 5:40 Or fix it the way you would in Word. 5:43 Choose Suggest, select the words, 5:45 and type your version. It saves as a tracked change. 5:50 Your comment now shows up in the score explanation, 5:53 right beside the AI's, and Writing moved by half a point. 5:56 Like how the AI put something? 5:58 Keep it in your comment library. 6:00 The comments you write go there on their own. 6:04 When you are happy with it, 6:06 Confirm grade. Confirming means you have signed off. 6:09 It is not in Canvas yet, and nothing reaches the student until you release. 6:15 You could release this one paper to Canvas now, 6:18 or release the whole class together at the end. 6:21 Want to see this same paper in Canvas? 6:24 This opens it in SpeedGrader. 6:27 Here it is in Canvas, still ungraded. 6:32 Back in LawGrader, Download gives you the marked-up memo, 6:36 with its cover sheet. 6:37 On to the next student. 6:43 Highlight a sentence, and a comment box opens beside it. 6:48 In the box, press Command K to open your comment library. 6:53 Search it, and pick the comment you saved. 6:58 It drops right in. Choose a criterion, and add it. 7:04 Write it once, use it on every paper. 7:08 Confirm this one too. 7:12 Done takes you back to the whole class. 7:18 Back with the whole class, two of six are confirmed. 7:21 Once you trust the rest, Confirm all grades signs off on them in one step. 7:27 Before releasing, decide exactly what students receive. 7:31 Open the report layout. 7:35 On the right is the exact file each student gets. 7:38 Flip through real papers from your class. 7:46 Choose what goes on the cover. 7:48 Turn on the level for each criterion, 7:50 and a short list of what to work on next, 7:53 and the report redraws as you go. 7:56 After the cover comes Priya's memo, 7:58 with every highlight and margin note, 8:02 including yours. 8:05 Download it. 8:09 Save the layout for the whole course. 8:15 Now release. One click sends every grade and every report back to Canvas. 8:22 All six are released, and posted to Canvas. 8:25 Back in Canvas, the gradebook is filled in. 8:31 Open Priya's memo in SpeedGrader. 8:33 The score is in. 8:46 Your overview arrives as a Canvas comment with two files: 8:51 Priya's own memo in Word, and the full report. 8:55 The Word file is Priya's own memo, 8:57 with your suggestion as a tracked change she can accept, 9:01 and every comment in Word's review pane. 9:04 The report adds her grade and your feedback on the cover, 9:08 with every comment in the margin. 9:11 See something odd? The Feedback button is on every page. 9:15 Say what happened, mark it as a bug, and send. 9:18 A screenshot of what you saw comes with it. 9:23 The next day, open the Help menu and choose My feedback. 9:28 My feedback shows everything you have sent us, 9:31 and where each one stands. 9:35 This one needs your input. We asked a question. 9:39 Reply right here, and it comes straight to us. 9:45 A little later, My feedback says it is fixed. 9:48 Open it to see what we did. 9:51 Our note says what changed, 9:52 and it was your report that got it fixed. 9:55 See what changed opens the release notes. 10:01 And there it is, shipped in the next version. 10:04 Every report gets read, and you will always see where it landed. 10:09 Every step has its own short video in the library, 10:12 with chapters and search. Start there whenever you have a question. 10:17 LawGrader proposes. You decide.
